Collect One-pagers.
1. Read through “Complaints and Disorders” on page 782 in the yellow literature book.
2. How was life different for women back in the 1900s than it is now? What has happened to change things? Bring out that any illness, mental and physical, was considered to be a result of women’s inherent weakness, and was generally treated by complete seclusion and bed rest.
3. Give students a brief background on Charlotte Gilman.
4. Have student listen to "The Yellow Wallpaper" while they create a visual representation of the wallpaper using yellow paper folded to create eight separate sections (four front and four back).
5. Read and discuss "Why I Wrote the Yellow Wallpaper"
