1. Have students begin by writing on a shared gothic work.
2. Go over Tone and Mood - Give students list of tone words.
3. Tell students about episode of Sienfeld where Kramer has landed a spot in a Woody Allen movie saying the line, “These pretzels are making me thirsty.” Throughout the episode, characters say the line in a variety of tones (Show clip)
4. Have students come up with a UCAS version of the line and invite some students to come up front and do a Tone Challenge (if we have no takers, I’ll have to do it).
5. Allow students to read their choice of The October Game/Strawberry Spring/The Landlady. Have them fill out Tone Paper and Turn it in.
6. Have students trade and continue/finish shared writing.
