Greek and Latin Roots

1. Tell the students that there is great value in knowing Greek and Latin root words. For example, because I know that the Greek base hydro- means water, the Greek root kóll(a) means glue, and the Greek suffix -oeidēs means resembling or like, I can make educated guesses at the meaning of words like hydrocolloid (water added to something to make it glue-like). The actual definition is a substance that forms a gel when added to water, and hydrocolloid is what the dentist uses when he makes a mold of your teeth for braces and retainers.
2. Assign the students to prepare to teach each other their assigned root words by the end of the class.
3. Have each group teach the other groups. Give students blank handout to fill out. Tell them we will have a quiz on the Greek and Latin root words tomorrow.
4. New deadline for Research Portfolio-March 25th.
