Macbeth Journal # 5
Lady Macbeth: Now and Then
1. You will receive a Pair of Lines said by Lady Macbeth. Each pair contains a line from her sleepwalking scene and a line she said in an earlier scene. They have been paired because they refer to a common incident or situation, primarily the murders the Macbeths have committed. Some of them use an important common word.
2. Open your book to the line from the earlier scene, reacquaint yourself with the situation in the play at that time, and write a summary paragraph of that situation and of how the character feels as she delivers the line.
3. Look back to the line from Act 5 and write another summary paragraph of the situation and the character’s feelings as she delivers the line.
4. Write a final paragraph explaining your conclusions about any change you perceive in the character of Lady Macbeth.
(For those of you who were absent on this day, after Friday, March 8th you should be able to click a link on "pair of lines" above. I'll have to scan it in at school and post it then. Choose which pair of lines you want to use and go ahead and complete the assignment.)

Other items that should be included are listed below.
  1. Either the trapezoid stage or the notebook paper from the blocking exercise with the buttons, Act I, scene ii. (You and your partner should have split this on the day it was done.)
  2. Macbeth's points for and against killing the king from his soliloquy in Act 1, scene 7.
  3. Your fraud diamond paper (from the day the sub was here).
  4. Your word trace (unless I already have it).
