1. This is a book about people and relationships during the 1920’s. It shows the effect of wealth on people’s lives and the values they hold most important. We read this novel to help example the values we hold most important today and in the future. It holds truths for every generation.
2. Read the first ten pages aloud to the point where it says “And so with the sunshine and the great bursts of leaves. . .”
3. Ask students what they notice about the narrator and the book. What questions do they have? Each student will respond and we will discuss details.
