2. Read Chapter 2 until Tom says that Wilson is "so dumb he doesn't know he's alive." Point out the valley of ashes and TJ Eckleberg's eyes. (Use powerpoint.)
3. Watch Gatsby until the end of the party at Myrtle's house where Tom breaks Myrtle's nose. What do Tom's words about Wilson and his breaking of Myrtle's nose tell us about him?
What are some of the rumors floating around about Gatsby?
What ideas do we get about Myrtle's character from her actions? Why is she attracted to Tom? Why is Tom attracted to her? Are either of them really seriously in love? How do we know that Tom isn't serious about Myrtle? (the lie about Daisy being a Catholic).
